Publisher Description:

A common complaint among non-lawyers is the difficult language lawyers use in drafting legal documents and explaining the law. This “language” has been referred to as “legalese,” and is often frustrating to someone without a legal background. There have been attempts to transform many legal documents, such as residential leases and mortgage notes, into “plain language” documents to limit confusion, however, for the most part, this complicated legal language remains.
The Legal Almanac Series is designed to provide the non-lawyer with straightforward information on pertinent and timely legal issues and subject matter. The Dictionary of Selected Legal Terms is intended to reduce the complexity of legal definitions by providing clear and simple definitions of commonly used terms covering a wide variety of legal topics. The terms incorporated in the third edition of the Dictionary of Selected Legal Terms were chosen specifically for this purpose, and the definitions have been prepared with the layperson in mind. This publication is a valuable resource for both non-lawyers and lawyers.
